Unclouded Financials: Affiliate Marketing

Two weeks ago I embarked on a journey to pursue my financial freedom. Twitter opened my eyes to a number of people claiming that "anyone" could make money with just a phone or laptop and an internet connection. In these last two weeks, I have spent hours looking into videos and reading articles about what affiliate marketing is and how I would get started. The most difficult part about this is trying to differentiate between the individuals who are genuinely trying to help you, and those who have ulterior motives behind what they are saying.

No matter what I read, the underlying message was pretty much the same. "Anyone can do it."

ANYONE CAN DO IT

This phrase is forever ingrained in my head. If it was this easy, why isn't everyone doing it? The promise of making 6 to 7 figure salaries by simply utilizing social media affiliate seems way too good to be true. So is it?

The concept behind affiliate marketing is actually pretty simple. There are a couple different ways to go about it but the two I will be touching on are the following:

• Sell a course, service, or product that someone else offers and receive commission of each sale

• Create your own course, service, or product and pay others a commission to sell it for you.

Creating a course seems to be what most of the larger Twitter accounts are doing. They have built a follower base that allows them to gain almost instant sales. They will offer affiliate links for people who buy their product.

Smaller accounts, like myself, appear to be selling the courses that the larger accounts have created. You simply buy a course that has an affiliate link guarantee and push the course to others. Side note, iv'e seen claims that less than 10% of people actually review the entire course. It would seem that people are buying the course just to promote it and make their commission check.

So, can anyone do it?

This answer is more complicated than that. Anyone can get into affiliate marketing. At start-up, it takes very little investment. You can choose what it is you want to affiliate for. For me currently, I am affilitating essentially to become an affiliate.

Should everyone do it?

NO! Over the last 2 weeks I have spent countless hours trying to grow a follower base and teach myself the ins and outs of twitter. It is very time consuming at first. Do not believe the "You only need 2 hours a day" sales line that people sell you. Ive spent at minimum, 4 hours a day on my laptop. If you are going to quit after 2 weeks because you don't have any sales and you are tired of the constant online media grind, then do not start it.

Moving Forward

Affiliate Marketing is the first step for me. I intend on building multiple streams of passive income. I plan on spending the next 6 months or so building my twitter following. I want to learn enough in that time to develop my own course in which I will have others affiliate for me. In the mean time, I will try to create a blog post every week or two to update my followers. I will touch base on the resources I am buy, reading, utilizing, etc.
